Mr Owens Volcanic Eruption – Always get adult permission and supervision throughout when doing Mr Owen’s science experiments. Be careful with the warm water and the bicarbonate of soda and dispose of it all carefully afterwards with adult instruction on how to do so. Make sure that you follow the exact quantities used by Mr Owen- no more! Ask an adult to pour in the vinegar at the end and stay well back to watch the eruption. It might be an idea to do this experiment outside. Have fun and stay safe.

Amongst other things, our class will be learning about Ancient Egypt, Space, and the Vikings. These topics represent some of our topic-based curriculum learning intentions. To build the children’s enthusiasm and bring their topics alive, we have included several trips and workshops throughout the year, as well as lots of music, practical activities, art and D.T.
All children will read the same fiction and non-fiction texts in English, although their academic objectives will be tailored to suit their respective year groups. We will cover a range of different text types and narratives. Similarly, our maths learning will accommodate the two different year groups’ learning objectives, although we will all cover the same overarching mathematical topics and skills.
Alongside their academic skills, we also take time to develop your children’s emotional understanding. This work includes activities to develop their understanding of social situations, friendship groups and their own well-being. If you have not already done so – please introduce yourself in the playground – it has been lovely to be made to feel so welcome by those of you to whom I have chatted.
