Ash teacher: Miss Furniss

PE Day: Wednesday
Scooter Day: Tuesday

Welcome to Ash!

It is going to be a busy and exciting year. All our topics are based on a ‘big question’ which will be used as a stimulus for all the learning taking place in English, Maths, Science and all of our foundation subjects. Our curriculum is designed so every child can ‘live life in all its fullness’.

It’s important to us that learners love learning so they’re confident and take ownership of their own learning. Children really benefit from asking questions in class or at home by talking about what they’ve learned. They might even do more research on the topic to contribute to their next lesson!

As you know, we endeavour to ensure that all learners are respectful and as a school we will continue to support you in reminding your child of our School Vision and the importance of having high expectations for learning and behaviour – ambitious, reflective and imaginative learners will drive teaching and learning.

As children move into Year 4, table facts become more important. Children who remember their table facts have an easier time with multiplication, division, and fractions than those who can’t, so it’s a good skill to have. The curriculum in Year 5 and above assumes that children know their times tables, so those who have not put in the time and effort to learn them will find their work more challenging. We feel that parental support is essential in helping the children to learn them off by heart – so thank you for putting your time in to helping your child accomplish learning their times tables off by heart.

Times Table Rock Stars is a great tool to help, but the real test is to get children to take the Multiplication Tables Check on Mathsframe (see link below).

All your support is invaluable and open lines of communication is an essential part of successful school year. Please remember to bring in your reading book and reading record daily, as it is an important communication tool between school and home.

In Ash we aim to work hard with high expectations yet have an exciting and fun-filled year!
