Laurel teacher: Miss H Greaves
PE Days: Monday & Tuesday
Scooter Day: Tuesday
In Year 5 we have a whole range of exciting topics planned throughout the year. These topics are aimed to inspire and engage our pupils and help to develop their creativity and independence.
These topics include World War One, Our Amazing Planet and The Ancient Mayans. Within these topics we ask the pupils a big question and this will underpin the learning in Maths, English, Science and all of our other foundation subjects. In Year 5, we aim to promote a love for learning in our lessons so that our pupils feel confident to take ownership of their own learning at school and at home. We encourage our pupils to develop their own understanding in school by asking questions and using the resources to carry out their own research or at home by talking about what they have learned at school or finding some extra facts to contribute to our topic.
When I was in primary school I had a saying ‘I can and I will’ to motivate me to do the best that I could possibly do in lessons, extra-curricular activities and more. This saying is continued in our lovely Laurel class with a small alteration, ‘we can and we will’.
To continue your child’s learning outside of school it would benefit them to complete daily reading, completing a creative half termly homework project, learning times tables and weekly spellings. Together we can help your child be the best possible version of themselves. We will be reading everyday at school so it is important that your child brings in their reading books and reading records, this will also help us to communicate regularly and I will be able to see all of the fantastic things that you are reading at home.
I look forward to getting to know you all throughout the year.
